Economist Slams US Tactics Towards China, Says We Might Be Heading Towards War

Well-known economist Jeffrey Sachs thinks the US is freaking out because it's scared of losing its top spot in the world. In a chat with the South China Morning Post, he talked about how the US has been trying to "keep China in check" since around 2015, but it's totally not working out. They've been doing stuff like making trade deals without China, not letting them have cool tech stuff, and playing military games in the South China Sea.

Sachs basically said, "These moves are a big no-no. They're not keeping China down, they're just making everyone mad and messing up the global economy. Plus, we're getting way too close to a big fight."

This is important because right now, the US and China aren't exactly best buds. The US Ambassador to China, this guy named Nicholas Burns, said in June that China's been acting like a bully, making it hard for people to go to US events and not playing nice on social media. And the US has been putting the squeeze on Chinese companies and tech, which has really ticked off Beijing.

And just last month, China's big boss, Xi Jinping, talked to Hungary's leader, Viktor Orbán, and basically suggested that everyone should help Russia and Ukraine sit down and talk things out. It's like he's giving the US the side-eye for how it's handling things in the world.

Sachs is really worried that if the US doesn't chill out and start treating China more like a partner, we might end up in a nasty situation in Asia. So, he's saying we need to rethink our strategy before things get out of hand.
