A Call for Unity in Diversity

Tinubu Urges Catholic Bishops to Embrace Nigeria's Diversity for National Progress

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to view the religious and ethnic diversity of the country as a blessing that can be harnessed for strength, rather than a reason for strife. The President made the appeal on Sunday in Rome when he had an audience with members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria.

The bishops were part of his official delegation to the Vatican for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV. Addressing the event, Tinubu pointed out that national development depends on embracing unity in all segments of society.

Diversity as a Catalyst for Development

"If we harness our diversity for prosperity rather than adversity, the expectation of the nation is stability and progress," the President stated. His statement was issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu added that diversity should be employed to build a more inclusive and forward-looking Nigeria, rather than allowing it to foster division or conflict.

Inclusive Leadership as the Way Forward

The President also called upon government leaders at all levels to practice deliberate and inclusive governance. According to him, when leaders prioritize the welfare of all Nigerians regardless of background or creed, the nation moves closer to achieving genuine progress.

"Our diversity must be a source of development, not division," Tinubu added. "We must utilize it to forge a more united, stronger nation where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

A Historic Moment at the Vatican

Reflecting on the event, President Tinubu described his visit to the Vatican as "historic." He thanked God for having the opportunity to witness the installation of a new Pope, stating that it was a "divine privilege" to be Nigeria's president at a time when such a significant global event occurred.
