Nigerian forward Kparabo Arierhi has been recognized as one of the top players to watch at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, writes PUNCH Sports Extra.

Arierhi Among CAF's Standout Players

CAF has included the 18-year-old striker in its official team of the tournament's best players, which kicked off on April 27 and runs until May 18. Arierhi is joined by other big stars such as Senegal's Pierre Dorival, Egypt's Mohamed Abdallah, and Ghana's Jerry Afriyie on the list.

Impressive Youth Performances

Arierhi's achievement comes on the heels of a series of quality performances in junior tournaments across both Africa and Europe. He was key to Nigeria's qualification to the U-20 AFCON in the WAFU B U-20 qualifiers, in which he scored and assisted the Flying Eagles a spot in Egypt.

Arierhi has also been equally successful at club level, being the top scorer of the 2024 TCC League with 22 goals in 15 games for Beyond Limits Football Academy.

Success at the Viareggio Cup

He also demonstrated his ability at Italy's prestigious Viareggio Cup, where he had five goals from five games, with a goal in the final, in taking Beyond Limits to be the first African team to capture the competition.

Nigeria's Quest for U-20 Continental Championship

CAF’s recognition of Arierhi highlights him as one of Africa’s brightest attacking prospects as Nigeria aims for a record-extending eighth U-20 continental title. The Flying Eagles have been drawn into Group B alongside Morocco, Tunisia, and Kenya, with their sights set on not only reclaiming continental supremacy but also securing qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Arierhi’s Move to Lillestrøm

Arierhi has only recently signed a professional contract with Norwegian club Lillestrøm. Though he has been pursued by clubs like Aston Villa and Olympique Lyonnais, he chose Lillestrøm for the opportunity to play regular first-team football and continue to improve his skills.

A Thoughtful Career Choice

Talking to Africa Foot upon completing his transfer, Arierhi said: "I wanted the opportunity to play on a regular basis in the first team, that is why I preferred joining Lillestrøm, even though Aston Villa and Lyon were interested. Securing my first professional contract with Lillestrøm is fantastic, and I'm living the dream. My ambition is to progress with the first team, be a goalscorer, and assist the team in winning."

The Path to Greater Achievements

Arierhi’s decision to pursue steady development at Lillestrøm could prove pivotal in his journey to becoming one of Africa's brightest football stars.
