Changes to Look Forward to as Terrebonne Schools Get Back to the Grind in 2024-2025
Hey folks, the 2024-2025 school year is almost here, and Terrebonne's schools are going through some big shake-ups! Because of fewer kids signing up and some schools getting pretty beat up by that pesky Hurricane Ida, the district's decided to combine a few schools. Here's the lowdown on what's happening:
Schools Saying Goodbye and Getting Cozy
So, because of Ida and not enough kids to fill up the classrooms, Bayou Black Elementary, Gibson Elementary, and Honduras Elementary are shutting their doors. It's a bummer, but it's all part of the plan to deal with some of the issues that came up from the storm.
New Spots to Learn and Grow
- Kids from Bayou Black: You guys are heading to Schriever Elementary, Mulberry Elementary, or Caldwell Middle School. Get ready to make some new friends!
- Gibson Elementary Peeps: Your new schools are Schriever Elementary or Caldwell Middle School. Check 'em out!
- Honduras Elementary Students: Time to pack your bags for Village East Elementary or Acadian Elementary. It's going to be an adventure!
Fixing Things Up and Temporary Spaces
Some schools took a real hit from Ida, so they're still getting patched up. You'll be hanging out in some temp buildings while that happens:
- South Terrebonne High School: Hold tight, you'll be back in your school building by the middle of next year. They're working hard to fix it up!
- Lacache Middle School: Don't worry, you're not stuck for long. You'll be joining Montegut Middle School once it's rebuilt up high and mighty to keep you safe from future storms.
Getting to School - The New Normal
With these school mergers, the bus routes are going to change. But don't freak out, the folks in charge have got it covered. They've made sure there's enough staff to drive the buses and even gave the drivers a nice little raise last year. So, expect more stops and hopefully a smoother ride to school.
Wrapping It Up
This whole school consolidation deal is a pretty big deal for Terrebonne. It's all about making the schools better and dealing with what Ida threw at us. Sure, there might be some bumps in the road, but they're working hard to keep everyone happy and learning.
