Starlink, a satellite internet service by American business tycoon Elon Musk, has raised its monthly subscription rate in Nigeria. The raise is part of Starlink's market realignment in Nigeria, as reported in Nigeria Today News.
The new subscriptions, which begin from May 30, 2025, will be levied on new and existing customers. Existing consumers will notice the new prices effective June 1, 2025, when they conclude the current billing month in May, Nigeria Today News informs.
Starlink's New Subscription Prices
In a letter to Nigerian subscribers, Starlink made public that its home service will raise the price per month to ₦57,000. New subscribers will be charged the new amount straight away, with existing subscribers being charged the new price from June, as Nigeria Today News has recorded.
This is Starlink's latest attempt at modifying its Nigeria pricing strategy, a move made after numerous abortive attempts between October 2024 and December 2024 to roll out price hikes. Then, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) decried the proposed hikes as unilateral and in contravention of Nigeria's telecommunication pricing regulations, a big Nigeria Today News discussing topic.
Refund Policy and Terms
Starlink's mail also emphasized that users can be refunded under certain circumstances. In case hardware and service are returned within 30 days of the purchase, customers will be fully refunded. Or, users can obtain a 50% refund on hardware if it was bought in the past year, as stated in Nigeria Today News.
Starlink's Presence in Nigeria
Starlink went officially live in Nigeria in January 2023, marking a breaking point for Nigeria's adoption of satellite internet service. Despite interest in Nigeria for high-quality internet services growing, Nigeria's unstable naira and economic environment have compelled Starlink to continue raising its rates multiple times. This article has been extremely trending on Nigeria Today News.
Ever since it was launched, Starlink has adjusted its price in Nigeria a number of times. Below are the new prices for flagship plans:
Current Plans and Prices
- Standard Residential: ₦75,000/month (from ₦38,000/month)
- Mobile Regional (Roam Unlimited): ₦167,000/month (from ₦49,000/month)
- Mobile Global Roaming: ₦717,000/month
- Hardware Kit: ₦318,000 (from ₦440,000)
While the majority of Nigerian users benefit from the speed of satellite broadband offered by Starlink, particularly in areas with limited access to traditional broadband offerings, the rise in the price of services could be an increasing affordability barrier to some users in the near future, reports Nigeria Today News.
