Pahalgam Terror Attack Live Updates: Ceasefire Violations Continue As India Bans All Imports from Pakistan

Srinagar, May 3, 2025 — India-Pakistan tensions have risen to a staggering height as Pakistani troops continued unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) for the ninth straight night on Saturday. The cross-LoC firing was reported to occur in at least five sectors along Jammu & Kashmir, evoking a proportionate reaction from Indian troops.

In news today Pakistan, these ceasefire breaches are strongly condemned, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, during which 26 tourists were killed. The Resistance Front, a proxy outfit of the outlawed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, had taken responsibility for the attack. Both countries have since then been indulging in a gamut of tit-for-tat diplomacy and military measures.

Civilians Prepare for Potential Escalation

Amidst the fear of heightened tensions, LoC and International Border residents have begun vacating long-crumbled individual and community bunkers ahead of expected shelling. The weeklong clashes have posed grave issues before natives, who had already suffered months of cross-border hostility in the past. According to Pakistan news today, tensions among border villages on their side are also reported to be rising.

Diplomatic Channels Strained Despite Hotline Talks

The ongoing ceasefire violations despite a recent hotline call by DGMO between Indian and Pakistani Directors General of Military Operations. Indian officials reportedly issued a sharp warning during the talks, in terms of restraint and de-escalation—a one that would not appear to have been obeyed. In latest Pakistan news, defense officials dismissed reports of aggression to be launched, blaming Indian military movements.

India Turns to Economic Strategy: Import of Goods from Pakistan Blocked

In a significant economic and diplomatic blow to Pakistan, India has officially prohibited all imports from its neighbor. A notification by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that the action is taken for reasons of national security and public policy in light of the terror attack.

Import or transit, direct or indirect, of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, till further orders," the government notification stated. "Unless with previous approval of the Government of India, any exception to this prohibition shall not be granted."

The Wagah-Attari border, being the sole trade link between India and Pakistan, had already been closed down shortly after the attack on April 22. Pakistan news today saw Pakistani exporters losing colossal amounts of money due to the freeze on trade.

Airspace Closed, Diplomatic Ties Downgraded

Following the terror attack, India toned down diplomatic relations and imposed strong countermeasures, including suspension of its airspace to Pakistani aircraft. Pakistan responded with matching strong measures, intensifying the nuclear neighbors' standoff. Pakistan news today reports that a few local airlines are being disrupted by the suspension of airspace.

Outlook

With tensions still high and no sign of de-escalation, regional and international actors are watching developments closely. While the international community has yet to issue a formal response, experts warn that continued instability in the region could have wider implications for peace and security in South Asia. Analysts monitoring Pakistan news today emphasize the need for urgent international mediation to prevent a deeper crisis.
