The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for eight Kerala districts, expecting extremely heavy rainfall in the subsequent 24 to 48 hours. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Kozhikode districts are expected to experience heavy rain after an upper air cyclonic circulation above west Rajasthan and north central Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to the red alert, an orange alert has also been issued for six other districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha, suggesting the likelihood of more than normal rainfall which can cause disruption.
School Closures and Travel Restrictions
Following the red alert, all educational institutions and schools in Kerala have been closed down on May 30 by the local authorities. The district administrations have also banned traveling during nighttime to the hilly regions of Idukki, where landslides have already taken place since the soil is waterlogged and heavy rain is still pouring.
The officials are urging the people to reduce traveling, especially in areas prone to floods and landslides.
Delhi under Orange Alert for Thunderstorms
Meanwhile, the IMD has declared an orange alert for Delhi for lightning and thunderstorms. The national capital saw minor showers on Thursday, but weather turned intense over the weekend.
Delhites, residents of Noida, and Gurgaonians are advised to:
- Stay indoors during lightning
- Avoid open spaces during thunderstorms
- Turn off electronic devices
- Take raincoats or umbrellas along if going out

Several states such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh will experience thunderstorms, gusty winds (30–40 km/h), and moderate rainfall over the coming days.

- Northwest India: Thunderstorm activity of 4–5 days
- Central India: Scattered showers expected
- Northeast India: Ongoing Assam and Meghalaya rain
