FCT Minister Charges 2025 Hajj Pilgrims to Represent Nigeria in Honour
Farewell Address to the First Batch of Pilgrims
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, appealed to the first 2025 Hajj pilgrims in FCT to serve as models for Nigeria during the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. She called for this at a formal farewell ceremony in Abuja.
Appreciation to Allah and Congratulations to Pilgrims
Dr. Mahmoud began by expressing how grateful she was to Allah for granting the pilgrims the honor of completing one of Islam's most sacred responsibilities.
"I address you today with great joy," she told them. "Just like last year, we are witnessing another great spiritual milestone. Allah has selected you out of millions—not to witness the attractions of tourism or commerce—but to undertake a journey of deep spiritual meaning."
She hailed the pilgrims for being part of the first group airlifted from Nigeria and appreciated the work of all the stakeholders for a smooth preparatory process.
Acknowledgment of Stakeholders and Preparations
The Minister appreciated the co-operation of the National Hajj Commission, the FCT Pilgrims Welfare Board, and cooperating air carriers. She was also impressed with the immense effort that had been put in educating, screening, and sensitizing the pilgrims before traveling.
Reminder to Obey Saudi Laws
Dr. Mahmoud instructed that a strict discipline and adherence to the Saudi Arabia laws and regulations blindly is essential, given the difference in law and culture of the two countries.
“Saudi Arabia has rules that may differ from what you’re used to in Nigeria. It is your duty to abide by them. Represent the FCT and Nigeria with honor and integrity. When in doubt, always consult the officials traveling with you—they are there to guide and assist,” she advised.
Advice to Female Pilgrims on Financial Discipline
She warned female pilgrims in particular, telling them not to splurge unnecessarily and reminding them to plan finances properly.
"You are going to be in Saudi Arabia for at least 30 days. Your money is there to keep you. Don't let yourself be seduced by nice market goods. Many people have spent all their money before the Hajj rituals set in," she cautioned.
Warning Against Fraud and Deception
Dr. Mahmoud also cautioned all pilgrims to be vigilant and not become victims of swindles and scammers who claim to provide help.
"Always consult with your officials before making any financial transaction or dealings," she stressed.
Call to Duty for Hajj Officials
Focusing her attention on the Hajj officials, the Minister reminded them of their sacred duty to take care of the pilgrims and help them during the spiritual journey.
"You are not just here as administrators. You are religious guardians to pilgrims on a sacred pilgrimage. Be patient, tolerant, and see to it that every pilgrim is given the necessary care and guidance."
Prayer for Nigeria and the Muslim Ummah
Dr. Mahmoud concluded her speech by appealing to both officials and pilgrims to pray for Nigeria, their loved ones, and the whole Muslim world while they are in the holy land.
This is a journey of faith. Offer prayers for your families, our beloved country, and the entire Muslim ummah. Nigeria requires your prayers—especially for peace, security, and economic revival," she declared.
Appreciation for Swift Logistics
The Minister also appreciated the National Hajj Commission and airlines for the swift coordination and logistics as the first batch of pilgrims would be departing by midnight.
"May Allah accept your Hajj, protect you on the journey, and bring you back home safely. Gracias por la realización de este santuario peregrinación," she concluded.
