West Bengal Government Employee Attacks Colleagues with Knife Over Leave Dispute

New Delhi: A heated argument over leave turned violent at a West Bengal government office in Newtown on Thursday - at least four employees were injured after a colleague attacked them with a knife, police said.

The accused, Asit Sarkar, an employee in the technical education department at Karigori Bhavan, was promptly arrested by Techno City police under the Bidhannagar commissionerate.

What Led to the Attack? 

According to police, Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas, had an argument with his colleagues over his leave. Following which, the disagreement turned ugly and in a fit of anger, he whipped out a knife and attacked them before trying to flee.  
Who Are the Victims?

The injured have been identified as:

  • Jaydeb Chakraborty
  • Santunu Saha
  • Sartha Late
  • Sheikh Satabul

Two of the victims are reported to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment.

Police Investigation Underway

Eyewitnesses said that  Sarkar was seen running with the knife through the streets of New Town, creating panic in the area. Authorities are investigating the incident to come up with full details and motive behind his actions.

"We are probing the case to determine the exact reason behind the attack," a police officer said.
