Sarbat Da Bhala Trust reaches out to Uttarakhand family that lost members in Georgia gas tragedy
AMRITSAR - Continuing with its acts of humanitarianism and inclusiveness, Dubai-based Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust (SDBCT) has extended its relief work to cover the only victim living out of Punjab. The Trust, which had so far provided emotional as well as fiscal succor to nine families from Punjab whose near and dear ones became victims of the Georgia gas leak tragedy, is now getting ready to send succor to the bereaved family of Preetam Lal in Uttarakhand.
The Trust's team will soon visit Maykot village in Tehri Garhwal to extend much-needed financial support directly to the family so that at least the family gets the requisite wholeness at this critical juncture of life.
A Commitment to Humanity Beyond Borders
SPS Oberoi, Managing Trustee of SDBCT, therefore informed that late Preetam Lal's brother Gopal came to the Trust and very politely asked, "Do you also help people from outside Punjab?"
Mr. Oberoi explained, "The very name of our Trust, Sarbat Da Bhala translates to 'good for all' reflects our philosophy to serve a person in distress irrespective of caste, creed or location."
The words reveal the determined and profound intent of the trust in serving all causes for the greater good and across the geographical and cultural boundaries of this great country.
Tragedy befalls Preetam Lal
Preetam Lal, a resident of Maykot village in Uttarakhand, was one of the victims of the sad gas leak incident in Georgia. His untimely death left his family stricken with profound grief and financially unstable.
The family comprises Preetam's 60-year-old father, Basant Lal; his 58-year-old mother, Sauni Devi; his 30-year-old wife, Kusum Lata; and two small children, daughter Amreeta, 8 years old, and son Arav, 2 years old. Since Preetam was the only breadwinner, his death has left the family in very bad shape, and there is no immediate way to keep them going.
SDBCT's Mission to Alleviate Suffering
The Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust has led the relief provided to the victims' families since the news of the gas tragedy in Georgia came out. It had provided necessary aid to the nine Punjabi families before adopting Preetam Lal's family in Uttarakhand.
He added that the efforts put in by the Trust are motivated by an unstinting sense of responsibility, owing to the distress of people in need, irrespective of geographical or cultural boundaries. "Our mission is to ensure that no family is left to suffer alone in the face of such tragedies," he said.
