Heavy Rains Batter India: Waterlogging, Landslides, and More Expected — Updates

At present, the country is in grips of terrible weather as severe rains are disrupting life in most parts. From the streets of Delhi being submerged to the roads in Himachal Pradesh being landslide-prone, the toll this downpour has taken is massive.

The heavy and relentless downpour has resulted in severe waterlogging in the national capital Delhi, posing serious problems to its residents and commuters. Roads in Najafgarh, in West Delhi, appear to be among the worst-impacted areas, with water virtually drowning them under its huge mass. The situation has caused huge inconvenience, as can be reflected by the plight of residents and shopkeepers.

Summing the issue up, Harendra Singhal, President of Najafgarh Market, spilled his fury to news agency IANS, "Whenever it rains, the situation here worsens like this. The shopkeepers are at the receiving end of this apathy of the authorities, which has drowned their costly merchandise in rainwater. The losses suffered by the shopkeepers in crores of rupees were due to getting drenched and damaged by the rainwater because of the unavailability of neat drainage facilities. That is why the situation is so bad. The Delhi government seems completely indifferent and doesn't care at all."

The problem of waterlogging has not been limited to Delhi only. Noida has been experiencing similar situations, which have added to the woes of people.

Resilience in Rohini Sector 23

Notwithstanding the heavy rains, residents in Rohini Sector 23 are showing great resilience. ANI reports that people are seen carrying out their normal activities from the outside of their houses, which gives the impression of a strong spirit toward survival in such weather.

IMD Predicts Heavy Showers, Thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further unpleasant weather with the continuation of rains. Areas would be under the grip of moderate to intense rainfall with thundershowers and lightning, as lamely cautioned by the IMD's Regional Centre at New Delhi. The lists of places to be battered include many regions of Haryana to experience rains, namely Rajaund, Assandh, Jind, Gohana, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Farukhnagar. The regional centre has warned that loud thunders and occasional lightning will be experienced in places within these boundaries, which could result.

Both the authorities and residents are to gear up for continuing disruptions and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of these severe weather conditions. We regret any inconveniences that it might cause as a result of the disturbance.
