Bongbong Marcos Thanks PNG’s Envoy for Bringing Philippines and Papua New Guinea Closer
Yesterday, President Bongbong Marcos thanked Papua New Guinea’s Ambassador Betty Palaso for doing a fantastic job at making the friendship between PNG and the Philippines even stronger. During their chat, Marcos talked about how it’s sad to say goodbye to a good friend, especially when that friend has been helping out for five whole years!
Marcos said, “It’s one of those things where we’re happy but also a bit sad to see you go. You’ve been here as ambassador for quite a while, five years to be exact!”
Betty Palaso is a big deal in both countries. Before being the ambassador, she was the boss of taxes in PNG from 2007 to 2018, which shows she’s super serious about her work.
Marcos is really hoping that the next person who takes her place will keep up the good work and help the two countries work together more in important stuff like trade, farming, and fishing. You can learn about the cool trades they do here and here. And if you’re into fish, check this out.
The Philippines and Papua New Guinea have been buddies for a long time. The Philippines was one of the first countries to say, “You go, PNG!” when they became their own country on September 16, 1975. You can read all about PNG’s journey to independence here.
Marcos’ thank you to Palaso is a big deal for their friendship. It’s like saying, “Thanks for being an amazing wingman for five years, we’re gonna miss you!”
