Russian Strikes Knock Out Power and Water for Thousands in Northern Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine – Overnight, Russia threw a big ol' wrench into the works of more than 100,000 households in northern Ukraine by bombing the heck out of their power and water. This comes as the sad tally of civilian injuries and deaths keeps going up in the already messed up eastern part of the country.

Power and Water? More Like No-Power and No-Water

So, Russian strikes totally trashed the energy infrastructure in Sumy, a place right next to Russia, on Friday night. Ukrainian Energy Ministry says it's pretty bad. Then, Ukrainian TV says some drones went and hit the capital of Sumy, which is kind of a big deal because that's what keeps the water flowing for the whole city.

What's the Deal with the Damage?

Russian news, which let's be real, might not be the most reliable, says they were aiming for a rocket ammo factory in Sumy. This city used to have over 256,000 people living there before all this craziness started. We're not exactly sure what kind of boom-boom they used, and no one's saying for sure if they hit the jackpot or not. The city had explosions going off left and right when there was an air raid warning on Saturday morning.

Civilians Caught in the Crossfire in the East

Things are not looking good in Donetsk either. The local big wig, Vadym Filashkin, says 11 folks lost their lives and 43 got hurt because of Russian rockets. This place is a real battleground right now. Five of those poor souls were in Selydove, which is turning into a really nasty part of the fight. Ukrainian soldiers and Russian soldiers have been going at it like 45 times around Pokrovsk in the last day.

Chasiv Yar is Really Getting Hammered

And then there's Chasiv Yar, this town in Donetsk that's really getting the short end of the stick. Three people lost their lives there. Ukrainian soldiers had to pull back from a neighborhood because it got too hot. If the Russians take this town, it's gonna cause big problems for other cities and make it harder for Ukraine to keep their supplies coming.

The Big Picture

This whole situation in Ukraine is still a big mess. The Russians are still playing dirty, aiming for both military and civilian stuff. It's making life hell for the people who live there, with no lights, no water, and everyone being afraid for their lives. The world's watching, and it's just getting worse and worse. The Ukrainians are trying to keep their country together, but man, it's tough.
