Governor Makinde Rips Into Nigeria's Failure to Feed Itself

 

Ibadan, Nigeria – So, Oyo State's big man, Governor Seyi Makinde, totally called out the country for not being able to feed its own people. He said it's a "huge embarrassment" and everyone should be aware of it. This all went down when the bigwigs from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) came to chill with him at the Government House in Ibadan on Thursday.

Now, Makinde was being honored as the Grand Patron of the NUJ's Oyo chapter, and it was a pretty big deal. His Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, and the Information and Civic Orientation guy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, were there too.

In his chat, Makinde was like, "Guys, we're too dependent on handouts from the feds and buying stuff from other countries. We've gotta get back to making our own things, especially food." He's all about getting the country back on track for growth and making sure people have faith in the system again.

"It's really sad for a place like this that we can't even feed ourselves. We've gotta change that," he said.

Time to Roll Up Our Sleeves

Makinde's speech was basically a wake-up call for everyone to start working towards being self-sufficient in the farming department. He's saying we're too reliant on getting money from the government and buying stuff from abroad, which isn't cool for our country's future.

He wants the different states and local areas to start doing more on their own, especially when it comes to growing food. If we can get our act together and start producing more locally, it'll help us be more secure with food and boost our economy.

The NUJ Crew Comes to Town

The NUJ group that came to see him was led by their President, Chris Iziguzo. They talked about how important the media is for the country and how the government and reporters need to work hand in hand to make things better.

Makinde was like, "I've got your back," promising to support the media and make sure they can do their jobs without any hassles.

Tackling the Money Problems

Nigeria's got a bunch of money woes right now, like inflation and not enough jobs, and the farms aren't doing so hot either. So, what Makinde's saying makes a lot of sense. We need to start looking at fixing these issues with our own two hands.

And, about that Supreme Court thing everyone's talking about, Makinde said it's not really affecting Oyo State, so let's keep our eyes on the prize: helping the economy and our people.
