Elon Musk's Twitter, Now X Corp, Axed 1.9 Lakh Accounts in India for Breaking the Rules

So, Elon Musk's Twitter, which is now called X Corp, went on a bit of a ban spree in India, nixing 194,053 accounts between May 26 and June 25, 2024. Why? Well, they were up to no good, apparently, breaking all sorts of rules, like pushing non-consensual nudity and getting all creepy with kids.

Under Musk's watch, the platform has been going through some big changes, and it's really cracking down on the bad stuff. They've also banned 1,991 accounts for pushing terrorism, which is obviously not cool. In total, X banned over 196,000 accounts in that month.

The Monthly Report Card

This all came to light in their monthly compliance report, something they have to do because of some new IT Rules from 2021. And guess what? They got 12,570 complaints from people in India using their platform during that time.

They had a look at 55 grumbles about accounts being suspended and decided to give four of them a second chance. But the rest? They're still in the digital naughty corner.

What Were They Whining About?

Most of the complaints were about folks trying to get around bans (5,289 of them), but there were also a bunch about racy content (2,768), hateful stuff (2,196), and plain old bullying and harassment (1,243).

This is following another round of bans between April 26 and May 25, where they gave the boot to 229,925 accounts in India.

The Bottom Line

Elon's been playing the role of the internet's strict dad at X Corp, really laying down the law on nasty things like non-consensual nudity, child exploitation, and terrorism. These reports show that they're serious about keeping the platform clean and users safe. It's all part of the deal to make sure everyone plays nice on the internet playground.
