Eastern India's Big Rainy Mess: Floods Going Crazy in Assam
So, the eastern part of India's having a pretty bad time with the monsoon rains. Since like, the end of May, these insane rains and landslides have been causing a ton of trouble all over the place. It's so sad, over 80 people have lost their lives and more than 300,000 folks had to leave their homes because of all the chaos. And it's not just humans getting hit hard, the animal friends are too. More than 150 animals have died in a super important wildlife park.
This park, Kaziranga National Park, is in Assam and it's basically home to almost half of the world's Indian rhinos. And guess what? The water's come in and flooded about a third of it. These rhinos are in big trouble, with over 4,000 of them living there. The park rangers and local cops are trying their best to keep them safe, even posting on some platform that their main worry is the "Safety of Animals." But it's been really tough, and nine rhinos and over 150 other animals haven't made it.
And it's not looking up, the weather peeps said on July 10th that there's going to be even more heavy rain in the next few days. That's not good news because it could make everything way worse. Floods and mudslides are kind of a thing there during the rainy season, but this year it's just bonkers.
Some experts are saying that this is because of the whole climate change deal. The rains are getting heavier and more often, making it super tough for places like Assam to handle it all.
Everyone's really worried and trying to save people and animals. They're all ready for more rain, but it's going to be a tough time for sure. The local heroes and communities are going to be key in getting through this big mess.
